Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

After a short weekend break LCD TV Reviews team decided to reviews mid-size LCD TV from Samsung - Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I read several reviews online before purchasing the SAMSUNG LN40A550. Its picture is outstanding, very crisp with deep blacks.

Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV is relatively thick but very attracting piece of equipment for you home. It has black plastic borders all around, small silver strip on the bottom and standard blue colored power button. The overall look will blend well into many rooms and retains the element of classiness imparted by glossy piano black.

The built in speakers of the Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV are hidden under bottom plastic cover. They are very small and almost invisible to the eye. This feature does have some advantages and disadvantages. Major advantage is that usually the popping out speakers on the side or at the bottom of the screen can ruin the overall solid look of the TV. Disadvantage in hidden speakers is that they are located behind the plastic and cannot provide full HDTV quality sound. Also according to the Samsung website they are pretty small.

Except sound quality we found difficult to find anything to complain about when evaluating the LN40A550’s quality. Its black-level and color performance equals or exceeds that of most more-expensive LCDs. Screen uniformity is worse than many models we’ve tested, but still better than others and not a deal-breaker in practice.

The Samsung LN40A550 LCD TV properly outputted 1080i material from both film and video, according to the HQV test disc, and, as expected, it resolved every line of a 1080p resolution source. We used a special test disc, designed to reveal motion blur caused by the display. This did not bring any huge anticipation in watching it. Also we tried watching fast video materials susch as Harry Potter movie and some other digital enhanced creations.

I would give this TV 5 stars across the board, however the sound is average. I have had this TV for a month for testing now and would recommend this tv to anyone. Also this mid-size LCD TV goes for the good online price of Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV - $799.
